Members and Fans of hockeyus.com,

You probably remember that we gave away over $700 worth of hockey equipment to our most active reviewers.

Lindros Bid For Hall Falls On Deaf Ears

What constitutes a Hall of Famer? By what criteria is one to judge? Should a decision to forever enshrine a player be based solely on statistics? How much does the player’s ability to win a championship factor into the mix? These are the questions asked each summer, when a new class is set to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Who Is Next in Net for the Flyers (Part 2)

Restricted Free Agents – The way restricted free agency works in hockey is like this…Any NHL club can extend an offer sheet to any RFA come July 1. The player’s current club has the option to match any offer and retain said player’s rights. Should they choose to let said player walk, they receive draft pick compensation based on the contract offered. For an offer under $1 million, there is no compensation. For an offer between $1-3 million, the owning team would receive a 2nd round draft choice at the following year’s draft. For an offer in excess of $3 million, the offering team must provide the players current team with both 1st and 3rd round draft choice in the upcoming draft, which is a steep price to pay for any player. Often times, rather than using the required compensation, two teams will simply come to terms on a trade for said players signing rights.

The first pick that the Flyers ever made in an NHL Entry Draft was for a young goalie named Bernie Parant. As crazy as this sounds, they Flyers traded that goalie away, instead opting to go with Doug Favell, an all-star caliber netminder who anchored the team for three seasons. As Favell began to age, the Flyers dealt him and reacquired Parant, who would succeed Favell and become the best goaltender in the NHL for years on end, leading the Flyers to two Stanley Cup Championships and setting many records that would not be touched until Martin Brodeur came along.

An In Depth Look at the Flyers Roster (part 2)

Earlier, I wrote about the pieces the Flyers have in place at the forward position.  Now, a look at the back end…defense and goaltending.  I apologize for the delay in getting this out…the acquisition of Dan Hamhuis from Nashville forced a rewrite.
