Brians Zero G 6 month Review

I wrote a review about 6 months or so ago about my pads. I thought it would be a very good idea to come back and do another review after 6 months.

Unlike my old vaughn v3's, these pads stay true to form. That is a very good thing when you are going into the butterfly. They maintain an awesome S curve so your 5 hole is virtually a closed door to all shooters.

Unfortunately, these pads are not lasting as long as I anticipated. I had my Vaughn v3 pads for a year and a half and only noticed wearing at the bottom near my ankles. The wear is fine with these pads, it's the quality of the material used. I have only had them 6 months and they are beginning to "chip" in places like the knee landing and high impact shot area's. I maintain them very well but still this is happening. The leather straps have become very flexible and are near the brink of breaking. I am worried about this because the people at Brians have integrated the straps into the actual pad so that a local shop cannot just do a quick fix.
Also, since the S curve is so defined I have problems when I stand straight up. The top of the thigh rise dig into my pants and force the pads to edge to the sides. This is not good because I am not prepared for a straight on shot without dropping to my knees.

My advice would be to try these pads at a goalie shop first. They are light which is great and helps with the flow of things, but the quality is not up there like I thought it would be. My final verdict is to buy a different set of pads such as rbk's or bauer but in the higher end.

Good luck with your Zero G's.

Brian's Zero G

This pad is really great! It is comfortable, fits great, and it's super light. The graphics are pretty bad, but it is still a fantastic pad.

I used to be in a pair of 33" Itech RX7's, and the switch to 36+1" was hard, but these pads are pretty forgiving, and I broke them in and was completely adjusted to them in about 4-5 practices. At first they are pretty stiff, but they aren't completely flat, which means break-in should only take a few times out on the ice.

I can't say for durability, since I have had these pads for 2 weeks, but Brian's has a great reputation, and all the stitching and seaming is really secure, so I am confident these pads will last for quite some time.

Brians ZeroG

My previous pads were rbk 8K. They only lasted like 1 year... So i deciced to buy really good pads. I tried ZeroG:s once and I knew immediatetly that these pads are the right thing for me. At first I was confused that how do you use the straps. Leather straps are supposed to be very and I mean very loose. Cloth straps needs to be relatively tight. Bottom leather strap, that goes under the skate is supposed to go through the middle hole of your skate. Once I got the settings right pads felt great. I was able to use these pads almos immediatetly. It only took 3 practises tops to get used to these. Biggest difference to rbk 8K was quality plus the ''landing'' part of the pad. When you go to butterfly you are stable with these pads, Its unbelievable how huge the difference is.

Overall id say that if you are buying new pads buy these. Or atleast give a try. These are quite expensive but I promise that these pads will last atleast 2 and more seasons. I got a 4 season promise. An other thing: You can sell these pads used and still get lots of money.

I bought these pads 3 months ago, I instantly fell in love with them when I tried them on for the first time. They are very responsive to your natural leg movements and they stay in shape, all of my other pads got broken in very fast. I am still in the process of breaking them in. As for specs. The pad is ultra light weight, in my opinion if you are using the right technique for getting up out out the butterfly, a few 100 grams is not going to make much of a difference. The pad is extremely comfortable, good for the long games. One small thing that is a huge pro is the second hole on the butterfly slide. I really under estimated how much that hole is making my butterfly better. I am 6'4", I know that is really tall for a goalie, but I always had trouble getting up from my butterfly because the pad would slide around my leg some, this second hole fixed that problem, so lanky goalie approved. The rebounds are right where I want them to be with these pads, usually if Intake a shot to the knees the bound would go away from where I expected it to go, costing stupid goals. The zero G fixed that problem, I think its that dense foam that they added to the front of the pad, it absorbs all impact. I give it a 5 out of 5 all around except for the pricing. I had to get my custom and Brians charged me $300.00 above retail price.
