MEC Duffle Bag Review

Weight: 800g (Med)

Built for the long haul, MEC’s duffel bags are the perfect place to park all that stuff you take out of your pack to make it lighter at the trailhead. These rugged bags are at home sliding along airport conveyor belts and sitting on top of yaks, too!

  • Made of 370g 1000-denier nylon, reinforced with extra-wide 7.5cm webbing.
  • Durable full-length #10 YKK® zipper on top of bag.
  • Contoured shape and side-zip pocket.
  • Heavy-duty D-rings accommodate a shoulder strap (included).
  • Side-grip trunk handles for convenience.

Almost the very best

I've gone through two hockey bags and they started to wear through pretty darn quick. One cost me $25 and the other cost me $55. This one cost me $36 and I have a mesh one that cost $55.
Pros - heavy duty and built to last with a quality shoulder strap that is comfotable to sling over the shoulder. This bag hasn't ripped, frayed or shows any visible signs of use after 6-7 months of use. It can fit, with some planning (all senior), large CCM V08 pants, 15 inch Reebok shin pads, 15 inch gloves, large elbows, large helmet with full visor, large Itech 955 shoulder pads and two jerseys with two socks, towel, sandals, jock, shirt and socks for the skates and the skates too.... yup, a full set of senior kit goes in the bag. You can close it without effort.
Cons - space
Look it's not a purpose hockey bag so it's just not that big and it only has one pocket for extras like stick tape, spare jock, laces, shampoo, etc.
Other considerations - you can get this in a mesh bag that is the same size and i use it about half the time. The mesh bag has a second pocket, which is nice. The best thing is that I throw it in the back of the truck on the way home at 100 kph it starts the drying process by getting air into all the gear.
If you don't want wheels and can live with the smaller size this is substantially stronger and better than any hockey bag I've seen.
If you're looking for a long lasting bag for years of kids hockey this should work for smaller players nicely as their equipment is so much smaller but once again it has no wheels so you need to be ready to accept that.

You don't have to go to MEC to get them. Most quality outdoor stores have something similar.

Both the regular duffle bag and the mesh version gave about a year of use and if either was cleaned and put back into the store you might have to look twice to see that they are used, that is how well they are holding up. If only these were larger!
